This drill was designed to deepen students' ability to respond to disaster situations and enhance their understanding of the emergency medical system.
The simulation involved virtual scenarios of large-scale disasters and mass casualty incidents, allowing students to learn, step by step, the emergency medical response procedures required at disaster sites and the structure of inter-agency cooperation.
The main programs included: ▲ Emergency medical disaster response manual ▲ Patient triage and documentation ▲ Roles and reporting procedures for each disaster response agency ▲ Emergency medical command and support systems.
The drill was led by Lee Donggeun, paramedic with the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) at Pusan National University Hospital, and Kim Dongkyung, disaster medical manager at the Central Emergency Medical Center's Busan Emergency Medical Support Center. Paramedic Lee Donggeun guided students through patient triage exercises using the MASS and START techniques, while Manager Kim Dongkyung systematically explained the flow of emergency medical care and the roles of each agency in the event of a disaster.
Nam Jaegyu, a participating student, said, "I was able to understand the entire process from patient triage to hospital transport at a glance during a disaster. I also realized why each role is important, which has increased my confidence in responding to real-life situations."
Department Chair Park Youngsoo stated, "This drill was a valuable opportunity for students to directly experience the entire disaster response process beyond theory. We will continue to strengthen field-oriented education to further enhance practical skills and expertise."
The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology boasts high national certification exam pass rates and employment rates among its graduates through practice-oriented education, and is continuously striving to nurture field-ready professionals.
