On August 26, Gangdong-gu in Seoul (headed by District Mayor Lee Soohee) announced on the 27th that it had signed a business agreement with Hyundai Department Store Cheonho Branch to stimulate the local economy and foster mutually beneficial cooperation. Under this agreement, the "Local Market" will be held on the 10th floor of Hyundai Department Store Cheonho Branch for six months, from September 16 of this year until March of next year. A total of around 40 companies will take part, with about 10 companies rotating in each session to offer a variety of products, including pet supplies, furniture, skincare products, clothing, fashion accessories, traditional knots, crafts, and accessories.
The event venue will also feature a diverse range of hands-on programs and food booths for residents to enjoy together. Experience programs will include making birthstone necklaces, trying on traditional costumes, aromatherapy, upcycling jeans, and drawing. In addition, visitors will be able to sample a variety of foods on-site, such as traditional Korean sweets, handmade Makgeolli, gluten-free macarons, and caramel treats.
For this event, Gangdong-gu will actively support the participation of social economy enterprises, young entrepreneurs, and small business owners, while Hyundai Department Store Cheonho Branch will provide space and infrastructure to help expand sales channels and promote the event.
The district expects that the "Local Market" will widely introduce competitive products and services from local social economy enterprises, youth-led companies, and small businesses to consumers, while offering participating companies opportunities to expand their sales channels and enhance brand recognition. Furthermore, it is anticipated that this initiative will contribute to realizing the social value of regional coexistence in line with Hyundai Department Store's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management practices.
Lee Soohee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "I would like to thank Hyundai Department Store for planning this special sales exhibition. I hope that, starting with this agreement, we will work even more closely with Hyundai Department Store Cheonho Branch for regional cooperation and development. We will continue to provide a wide range of support to ensure that social economy enterprises, youth, and small business owners can grow stably."
