"I Will Be More Careful in the Future"
Turkey's Minister of Transport became embroiled in controversy after a video was released showing him speeding on a highway, ultimately leading him to voluntarily report himself to the police.
According to X (formerly Twitter) on August 26 (local time), Abdulkadir Uraloglu, Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, posted a video to his account on August 24. The video showed the speedometer of the car he was driving personally, soaring up to 225 km/h. Along with the video, Minister Uraloglu wrote, "Ankara-Nigde highway with folk songs," and added, "Whenever we get tired, we are inspired by the President and remind ourselves, 'We have not tried hard enough yet,' and we hit the road again."
After watching the video, users commented on the post, saying, "He drove at 210 km/h on a road where the maximum speed limit is 140 km/h," and "What kind of punishment would a citizen face under the road traffic law if they drove at 223 km/h?" One user sarcastically remarked, "I have saved this video. If I receive a fine on the road in the future, I will contest it in court and use you as an example."
As the controversy grew, Minister Uraloglu posted again, stating, "I sat in the driver's seat to check the current condition of the Ankara-Nigde highway, and for a moment, without realizing it, I exceeded the speed limit. I have voluntarily reported this video." He later uploaded a photo of the fine notice he received after self-reporting. Minister Uraloglu added, "Observing the speed limit is everyone's duty, and the traffic police have imposed the necessary penalty. I will be more careful in the future."
