Do Kyungwan Responds to "Subordinate" Remark
Emphasizes Mutual Respect and Support in Marriage
Do Kyungwan, a former KBS announcer and current TV personality, has responded to comments made by his junior announcer Kim Jinwoong, who referred to him as "Jang Yoonjung's subordinate."
On August 26, Do Kyungwan posted on Instagram, "Some people may see our relationship as one-sided. However, my wife and I live our lives firmly supporting each other, with mutual respect and consideration."
He went on to reveal that he had received an apology message from Kim Jinwoong. Do Kyungwan said, "I was upset because this incident seems to have hurt my family and those who care about us, but I hope no one else gets hurt because of this. We will greet you again with bright smiles."
Previously, on the August 24 broadcast of KBS 2TV's "Boss in the Mirror," Kim Jinwoong visited a matchmaking company and said, "I can't live like senior Do Kyungwan. It may be rude to say, but I can't live as someone else's subordinate."
In response, Jang Yoonjung posted a screenshot of an article containing this remark on her Instagram, expressing her discomfort by stating, "Words or actions that don't make the other person smile cannot be disguised as a 'joke' or 'prank.' There is no such thing as a 'subordinate' in a family."
Afterwards, KBS viewers began petitions demanding Kim Jinwoong step down from his program and resign from KBS. The controversial episode of "Boss in the Mirror" was removed from the replay service.
As the controversy grew, announcer Kim Jinwoong stated, "I sincerely apologize to seniors Do Kyungwan and Jang Yoonjung for my careless remarks on today's broadcast. I still lack experience, and since this opportunity felt precious to me, I became overly eager and was not careful enough."
He added, "In particular, senior Do Kyungwan always encouraged me even when I was working in regional offices, and he was a warm senior who told juniors to contact him whenever they were hungry. I am deeply sorry for causing such trouble to him."
