Pilot Project to Run from 2026 to 2027
One-Stop Support System for International Students to Be Established
Dong-Eui University of Science (President Kim Youngdo) announced on August 26 that it has been selected as a final participant in the "Foreign Caregiver Training University" program jointly promoted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Justice.
This initiative aims to address the shortage of care workers in Korea by designating regional universities as "Foreign Caregiver Training Universities" and systematically supporting the entire process from recruiting international students, operating degree programs, acquiring qualifications, to job placement.
Among the 24 universities selected nationwide, Dong-Eui University of Science will operate the pilot project for two years from 2026 to 2027. The selected universities will establish caregiver degree programs, including customized Korean language education, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and will systematically conduct practical training and field education to nurture professional talent.
From the first semester of the 2026 academic year, the training universities will operate degree programs for caregiver training and may use the title "Foreign Caregiver Training University" when recruiting new students. Universities that wish to run Ministry of Justice’s early adaptation or social integration program-linked courses will be given preference, and the financial requirements for visa issuance for international students will also be eased.
Dong-Eui University of Science plans to operate a caregiving associate degree program for international students through the K-Global Department K-Care major, and will establish a one-stop support system covering all stages from admission, visa issuance, Korean language education, field training, qualification acquisition, to job placement.
Kim Taekyung, Director of International Cooperation, stated, "Being selected for this project is a recognition of Dong-Eui University of Science’s international student education system and expertise at the national level. We will do our utmost to systematically train foreign caregivers through tailored education and foster regionally-based professional talent in cooperation with local elderly medical welfare facilities."
With this selection, Dong-Eui University of Science is expected to further accelerate the development of regionally-based global care professionals.
