Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province held the opening ceremony for the Hapcheon Multipurpose Gymnasium on August 25, signaling a new milestone for enhancing healthy leisure activities and revitalizing sports culture for its residents.
The event was attended by more than 80 people, including County Governor Kim Yooncheol, County Council Chairman Jeong Bonghun, Provincial Assembly Member Jang Jinyoung, county council members, heads of local institutions, as well as Sports Council President Yoo Dalhyeong and executive members of the Sports Council.
The ceremony began with a progress report by Cho Hongnam, Head of the Sports Support Division, followed by the presentation of appreciation plaques, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a commemorative tree planting.
The multipurpose gymnasium is a cultural and sports facility located at 925 Hapcheon-ri, Hapcheon-eup. With a total project cost of 17 billion won, construction began in November 2023 and was completed in July 2025. The facility covers a site area of 72,369 square meters and has a total floor area of 4,098 square meters, consisting of one basement level and two above-ground floors.
Inside, the facility features a gymnasium (2,000 square meters), a fitness center (352 square meters), a group exercise room (64 square meters), as well as restrooms, showers, and other amenities. After a trial operation period of about two weeks starting from September 2, it will officially open for full-scale use, establishing itself as a hub for community sports that all local residents can freely enjoy.
Beginning with the National Elementary School Badminton Championship to be held in September, the facility is expected to serve as a starting point for attracting various national-level indoor sports competitions and events, playing a central role in the region’s sports infrastructure.
Kim Yooncheol, Governor of Hapcheon County, stated, "The Hapcheon Multipurpose Gymnasium is more than just a sports facility; it will become a center for healthy daily life, communication, and the local community, raising the standard of sports welfare for our residents. We will continue to develop and manage various types of sports infrastructure tailored to the needs of our citizens."
