Special Prosecutor Questions Complainants,
Including Assemblyman Chung Chunsaeng of the Innovation Party for the Nation
It has been confirmed that on August 25, Kim Gunhee continued to exercise her right to remain silent during her fourth interrogation since being detained by the special prosecutor team led by Min Jungki. The special prosecutor's office plans to indict Kim while she remains in custody as early as August 29.

Deputy Special Prosecutor Park Sangjin stated during a regular briefing that afternoon, "Kim Gunhee appeared for questioning at 10 a.m. and is largely exercising her right to remain silent."
Since her detention on August 12, Kim has been summoned by the special prosecutor's team on August 14, 18, and 21 for questioning regarding allegations of Myung Taegyun's nomination interference, the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case, and suspicions involving Geonjin Bopsa and the Unification Church. However, she has mostly refused to answer questions during these sessions.
The special prosecutor's team is expected to summon Kim one more time before indicting her while she remains in custody. Deputy Special Prosecutor Park stated, "We see the need to summon Kim once more this week. As the detention period ends this Sunday (the 31st), she must be indicted before then. We are considering Friday (the 29th) as the earliest possible date for indictment."
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor's team also summoned Jeon Seongbae, known as Geonjin Bopsa, who is considered a key link between Kim and the Unification Church, for questioning that day. It is reported that during the morning session, Jeon did not exercise his right to remain silent and generally denied the allegations.
Deputy Special Prosecutor Park said, "Since this is Jeon's first interrogation after being detained, we are asking all the basic questions, and we plan to summon him again to cover any issues not addressed in today's session."
Jeon was detained on August 21 on charges of aggravated bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and violations of the Political Funds Act. He is accused of receiving luxury goods from the Unification Church as gifts for Kim between April and August 2022, and of relaying various business and personnel requests.
Special Prosecutor Requests Additional Personnel from National Assembly... Kwon Seongdong Summons Expected Soon
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor's team submitted a request to the National Assembly that day for additional deputy special prosecutors, dispatched prosecutors, and government officials.
Deputy Special Prosecutor Park explained, "Based on the premise that we need personnel to maintain the prosecution, we have requested an amendment to increase our staff. Once the amendment is finalized, we will conduct a detailed review regarding dispatched government officials, including police officers."
Regarding the extension of the investigation period, he said, "The basic investigation period is 90 days, and the law allows for two extensions of 30 days each. Since we have not yet completed the basic schedule, I think it is premature to request an extension at this point."

Additionally, the special prosecutor's team is questioning Unification Church executives as witnesses in connection with lobbying on church issues and suspicions of People Power Party members joining the church. Although the schedules for summoning key figures such as Unification Church President Han Hakja and People Power Party lawmaker Kwon Seongdong have not yet been set, it is expected to happen soon. Deputy Special Prosecutor Park stated, "It is, of course, necessary to summon Assemblyman Kwon for questioning," but added, "There are no plans yet to summon President Han."
Investigation into 'Yoon's False Explanations Regarding Deutsche Motors and Mother-in-Law' in Full Swing
Furthermore, on this day, the special prosecutor's team began a full-scale investigation into allegations that former President Yoon Sukyeol violated the Public Official Election Act by making false statements. At 2 p.m., the team summoned Chung Chunsaeng, an Assemblyman from the Innovation Party for the Nation, and Seo Sangbeom, the party's legal committee chairman, as complainants.
Back in April, the Innovation Party for the Nation filed a complaint with the police, alleging that former President Yoon made false statements regarding Kim's alleged involvement in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case and his mother-in-law's forged bank balance certificate case. The special prosecutor's team has since taken over the investigation.
The allegations of false statements regarding Yoon's mother-in-law, Choi Eunsun, were also included in the complaint. In May 2021, former presidential chief of staff Chung Jinseok stated, "Former President Yoon said, 'Although my mother-in-law has been a victim of fraud, she has never caused anyone even a single cent of damage.'"
