Cooling Bus Deployed for Residents Who Lost Senior Centers in Wildfire
"Preventing Secondary Damage from the Heat Wave"
Uiseong County in North Gyeongsang Province has launched a mobile "cooling bus" to serve as a heat shelter for residents who lost their senior centers due to wildfire damage, as part of its efforts to respond to the ongoing heat wave.
This cooling bus service has been arranged for residents of Gwanduk 1-ri in Danchon-myeon and Sachon 1-ri in Jeomgok-myeon, whose senior centers were completely destroyed in a recent large-scale wildfire.
The bus will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until September 30. Inside the bus, residents can find air conditioning, water and beverages, and comfortable seating, allowing them to rest safely from the heat.
One village resident who visited the cooling bus expressed gratitude, saying, "After suffering from the wildfire and then enduring consecutive heat waves, both my body and mind were exhausted. Having this cool bus come directly to our village is a great comfort."
Uiseong County has announced plans to strengthen community-based measures to prevent secondary damage from the heat wave among vulnerable groups during the summer.
County Governor Kim Jusu emphasized, "We will continue to operate the cooling bus so that wildfire victims and seniors vulnerable to the heat can spend the summer in good health. Through community-focused administration that prioritizes residents' safety, we will do our utmost to minimize heat wave damage."
