Assemblyman Park Ji-won and Governor Shin Woo-cheol Take Action Themselves
Rolling Up Their Sleeves to Support Abalone Producers Amid Sluggish Consumption
Jeonnam Wando County announced on the 25th that it will hold a promotional and sales event for abalone at the Lotte Department Store Gangnam Branch.
Although high-quality abalone from Wando is harvested in abundance from spring to summer, consumption during this period is lower compared to peak seasons such as Boknal (the hottest days of summer) and traditional holidays. As a result, abalone producers in the region are facing difficulties. In response, the county, in consultation with fisheries organizations and related agencies, is working to boost consumption.

The promotional event will run for seven days, from the 22nd to the 28th. On the opening day, August 22, Assemblyman Park Ji-won, Wando County Governor Shin Woo-cheol, and Wando Boy CEO Yoo Jang-young visited the site, where they personally prepared and sold abalone. Additionally, an event was held in which customers who purchased abalone received an extra abalone as a gift, attracting a steady stream of consumers.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol told abalone buyers, "Nothing is better than abalone for maintaining your health during the hot weather," and encouraged them to "recover your energy with abalone and help spread the word to support abalone producers who are facing difficulties."
Wando abalone is considered one of the best health foods, rich in various vitamins, iron, calcium, potassium, and protein, making it excellent for restoring vitality and strengthening immunity. At 'Wando Clean Market,' which sells Wando’s specialty products such as abalone and seaweed, a free shipping event is being held throughout the month of August.
