Technology Partnership with Leading Global GDS Providers Including Sabre
First in Korea to Introduce Simple Payment to Airline Reservation Systems
Expanding Payment Innovation for Travel Agencies and Airlines
Toss Payments, the electronic payment gateway (PG) subsidiary of Toss, announced on August 25 that it has introduced simple payment to the Global Distribution System (GDS) for airline reservation and ticketing for the first time in Korea.
Toss Payments stated that it has formed a technology partnership with Sabre, one of the world's top three GDS providers, and Nol Universe. Sabre processes billions of reservations and ticket issuances annually in over 160 countries.
While simple payment has become common on individual airline websites and applications, the GDS system has only allowed payments by entering credit card numbers.
With this partnership, simple payment is now available on the Sabre reservation system as well. Since customer card information is not collected, the risk of exposing sensitive information is minimized. Users can now make safe and convenient payments with just a few taps.
The first application of this technology is on the travel platform 'NOL Interpark Tour,' operated by Nol Universe. Through a technical collaboration between Nol Universe and Toss Payments, Toss Pay has been implemented for airline ticket payments.
Toss Payments plans to link other simple payment services, such as Naver Pay and Kakao Pay, with the Sabre system by the first half of next year.
A Toss Payments representative said, "With the introduction of simple payment, users can now enjoy fast and easy payment experiences regardless of the airline ticket purchase channel," adding, "Starting with Nol Universe, we will continue to drive payment innovation so that more travel agencies and airline customers can increase their sales."
