Samsung Electronics Brings One UI to AI Home Appliances... Building an Integrated Software Ecosystem

One UI Update to Expand Across AI Home Appliances
Unified Software Experience for Mobile, TV, and Appliances
Personalized Features and Enhanced Security with Extended Support

Starting next month, Samsung Electronics will conduct a software update to apply its self-developed user interface 'One UI' to AI home appliances released after 2024. The company plans to build an ecosystem where integrated software features can be used across a wide range of devices, including appliances, in addition to mobile devices and TVs.

On August 25, Samsung Electronics announced that the 'One UI' update will be implemented as described. Since various app services on AI appliances, such as Gallery, Bixby, and Samsung TV Plus, will support the same user interface (UI) as mobile devices and TVs, users will be able to enjoy a consistent experience across all Samsung Electronics products.

With this One UI update, not only will the existing AI features provided by home appliances be further upgraded, but the range of applicable devices will also be expanded. First, Family Hub refrigerators and refrigerators equipped with the 'AI Home' touchscreen will support the 'Now Brief' feature, which automatically recommends personalized information based on the user's location, time, and usage habits. There will also be more ways to activate Bixby on refrigerators. In addition to the existing "Hi Bixby" voice command, users will be able to summon Bixby by double-tapping the refrigerator screen. Furthermore, features such as 'Voice ID,' which recognizes and distinguishes voices to provide personalized functions like scheduling, photo management, and accessibility settings, and 'AI Vision Inside 2.0,' which automatically recognizes 37 types of fresh food, will be expanded to all screen-equipped refrigerators released after 2024.

Samsung Electronics' proprietary security solution, 'Knox,' will also be applied to a wider variety of home appliances. 'Knox Matrix,' which provides threat detection and protection between devices connected via SmartThings using blockchain technology, will be expanded to a range of 2024 Wi-Fi-enabled products, including refrigerators and washing machines.

For appliances such as refrigerators and washer-dryers equipped with 32-inch and 7-inch screens, the 'Knox Dashboard' feature will be introduced, allowing users to view the security status of connected devices-including mobile devices, TVs, and other appliances-at a glance.

Samsung Electronics will provide free One UI upgrades for up to seven years for Wi-Fi-enabled products released after 2024, allowing users to enjoy new features throughout the entire product lifecycle.
