The main auditorium has replaced all 684 seats with new ergonomically designed chairs, and has introduced state-of-the-art acoustic reflectors as well as lighting and sound systems, creating a clear and immersive performance environment. In addition, the stage curtain and its operating devices have been upgraded to automated equipment, enabling more sophisticated productions, and have been replaced with fire-resistant materials to enhance safety.
This renovation project was carried out to address the aging of stage equipment and seating, and to improve both visitor convenience and the quality of performances. Through the Seoul Metropolitan Government's "District Cultural Center Remodeling" grant program, 3 billion KRW was secured, and an additional 300 million KRW from the district's budget brought the total investment to 3.3 billion KRW. The project was conducted over eight months, starting in January this year.
The newly reopened main auditorium will host its first performance on August 28, with the Luel Opera Company's classical concert "Moments of Music - The Meeting of East and West." The program will reinterpret masterpieces through media art and combine classical and contemporary music, offering audiences an artistic experience that engages both sight and sound.
Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, stated, "The Yangcheon Cultural Center is a representative cultural space where residents can enjoy art as part of their daily lives," adding, "We will continue to provide high-quality cultural and artistic experiences not only by improving facilities but also by offering a diverse range of performance content."
