A Healing Concert for Late Summer
Daejeon City Choir Presents "Music of a Late Summer Night" with a Diverse Program and Special Guests
Experience Spiritual Reflection and Comfort Through A Cappella, Choral Works, and Korean Art Songs
A concert to soothe the fatigue of the hot summer is set to take place.
The Daejeon City Choir will present its 172nd regular concert, "Music of a Late Summer Night," at the Daejeon Arts Center Art Hall on September 2 at 7:30 p.m.
This concert features a diverse program, including a cappella pieces that convey deep resonance using only the human voice, choral works accompanied by piano, violin, and cello, as well as lyrical Korean art songs.
The performance will be conducted by Winfried Toll, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Daejeon City Choir. Concertmaster Kim Pilgyun Paul and Principal Cellist Lim Jaesung of the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra will join as guest performers, adding rich tone and delicate interpretation, raising expectations for the event.
Part one will begin with Johannes Brahms' masterpiece "Motet Op. 74," followed by Mahler's "Radiant Light" and "Three Angels Sang," as well as works by contemporary composers Ola Gjeilo and Karl Jenkins, delivering messages of spiritual reflection, joy, and comfort.
Part two will open with European songs such as Saint-Saens' "Evening Sea," Debussy's "Romance," and Gjeilo's "Tundra," and conclude with lyrical Korean songs including Kim Kwangseok's "Where the Wind Blows," Kim Kwanghee's "Senoya," and Lee Hyuncheol's "Sanyuhwa."
Artistic Director Winfried Toll stated, "I hope this concert, which captures the mystery and wonder of nature like the cool air and sunset of late summer, will relieve the fatigue of the recurring heat each year and heal both mind and body."
