Son Heungmin of Los Angeles FC (LAFC) in Major League Soccer (MLS) scored his MLS debut goal with a spectacular free kick.
On August 24 at 9:30 a.m. (Korean time), Son started in the 2025 MLS regular season away match against FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium in Dallas, Texas. He scored the opening goal by capitalizing on a free kick opportunity earned by his teammate Denis Bouanga just six minutes into the first half.
Son took the free kick himself from just outside the left edge of the opponent's penalty arc, sending the ball directly into the net. His right-footed, slightly curled shot found the top left corner of the goal. The opposing goalkeeper made a full-stretch dive but was unable to stop the ball.

LAFC conceded an equalizer to Logan Farrington in the 13th minute of the first half, and as of the 26th minute, the score is tied 1-1 between the two teams.
FC Dallas currently holds 7 wins, 9 draws, and 11 losses, ranking 11th in the MLS Western Conference. LAFC stands at 11 wins, 8 draws, and 6 losses, placing them 4th in the conference.
Son joined LAFC on August 7 after leaving Tottenham Hotspur, where he had played for 10 years. Just three days after signing with LAFC, he made his official debut in the 2025 MLS Round 26 away match against Chicago Fire FC on August 10. In that match, Son impressed by earning a penalty kick that led to an equalizer while the team was trailing 1-2.
Then, on August 17 (Korean time), in an away match against the New England Revolution, he recorded his first MLS assist, helping lead his team to a 2-0 victory.
Having switched leagues, Son has managed to score his league debut goal in just his third match, showing that he is smoothly adapting to his new league in a relatively short period of time.
