Uijeongbu National Unification Council Hosts "One Heart Concert with Families of North Korean Defectors"

Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Liberation Day

Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Donggeun) announced on the 23rd that the Uijeongbu City Council of the National Unification Advisory Council (Chairman Jo Geumseok) held the "One Heart Concert with Families of North Korean Defectors" at the Grand Ballroom of Kyungmin Wedding Hall.

This event was organized to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, allowing people from both South and North Korea to enjoy each other's cultures and share their hopes for peace and unification.


With over 150 participants, including North Korean defectors and members of the National Unification Advisory Council, the Baekdu Halla Art Troupe-composed of North Korean defectors-performed a variety of acts, delivering a message of unity between the two Koreas.


In particular, during the 80th Liberation Day commemorative performance, all attendees reflected on the historical significance of liberation together. Through this, they expressed their love for the country and created a meaningful moment wishing for peace and unification on the Korean Peninsula.

Chairman Jo Geumseok said, "It was even more meaningful to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day with North Korean defectors and the local community, sharing hopes for peace and unification. I will continue to work with the community to build national consensus for the future of peace and unification on the Korean Peninsula."


Mayor Kim Donggeun stated, "I hope that today's stage commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day will serve as a small stepping stone toward a peaceful path where South and North coexist. I will continue to contribute to gathering the people's aspirations for unification and peace."
