Boryeong City Council Passes Youth Marriage Incentive Ordinance
Up to 3 Million Won in Local Currency for Young Couples Over Three Years
Aims to Encourage Marriage, Settlement, and Revitalize the Local Economy

Boryeong City to Provide 3 Million Won Marriage Incentive for Young Couples Councilor Kim Junghun of Boryeong City Council

The Boryeong City Council in South Chungcheong Province has established practical support measures to help young people settle stably in the region and to address the issues of low birth rates and population decline.

On August 23, the City Council announced that the "Boryeong City Youth Marriage Incentive Support Ordinance," sponsored by Councilor Kim Junghun, passed the standing committee on August 22.

This ordinance is designed to encourage marriage and settlement among the youth by providing a marriage incentive to young married couples.

According to the ordinance, eligible recipients are couples in which both parties are young people aged between 18 and 45, who are registered residents of Boryeong City as of the marriage registration date.

The incentive provides a total of 3 million won per household, paid in installments over three years. If both spouses are marrying for the first time, the full amount is provided; if only one spouse is marrying for the first time, 50% is provided. Remarried couples are not eligible for support.

The support is given in the form of local currency rather than cash, which is expected to not only alleviate the financial burden on young households but also stimulate the local economy.

Applications can be made starting one year after the marriage registration, and if the requirements are met each year, the incentive will be provided consecutively.

Councilor Kim Junghun stated, "The enactment of this ordinance is a practical system to ensure that young people do not give up on marriage and settling down," adding, "I hope this will serve as an opportunity for Boryeong City to become a youth-friendly city."

Meanwhile, the ordinance is scheduled to be finalized at the 5th plenary session of the 269th extraordinary meeting.
