Group Holds Special Safety Inspection Meeting
Chairman Jang Reiterates Swift Implementation of Safety Innovation Plans
Benchmarks Advanced European Safety Management Practices
Jang Inhwa, Chairman of POSCO Group, emphasized on the 22nd, "Let us make safety the group's top priority and have every member take the lead in safety innovation."
On the afternoon of the same day, Chairman Jang held a 'Group Safety Special Inspection Meeting' at the POSCO Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where he reiterated this message. It is known that Chairman Jang convened this meeting himself in response to growing safety concerns within POSCO Group, following a series of fatal accidents involving workers at POSCO E&C worksites earlier this year. The meeting was attended by Kim Seongho, Chairman of the POSCO labor union, representatives from ten group subsidiaries, and external advisory members of the Group Safety Special Diagnosis Task Force. They discussed urgent safety inspection results for POSCO E&C and other safety issues specific to each subsidiary.
Chairman Jang once again urged, "Please listen carefully to voices from the field so that every worker at our group’s worksites can work and return home safely, and so that employees can become both the agents of accident prevention and guardians of one another, achieving true innovation." In particular, he instructed that the current safety management innovation plans-such as establishing a professional safety company and a foundation for supporting families affected by industrial accidents-be carried out swiftly and without delay. He also encouraged active participation in the 'Integrated Safety Reporting System,' which has been in effect since the 18th, so that workers can immediately report hazards at worksites.
Previously, on the 20th, POSCO also held a 'Safety Empathy Talk with the CEO,' presided over by Chairman Jang. More than 80 employees from various departments attended and shared opinions on strengthening safety, including the establishment of an independent safety body to assess on-site safety and incentives to promote a broader safety culture. Chairman Jang stated, "Let us all become the driving force for safety innovation and participate in creating a safe workplace," adding, "As CEO, I will take the lead in field-oriented management activities to establish a safety culture."
On the 14th, Chairman Jang visited a global safety consulting and certification company in Europe. There, he benchmarked advanced cases such as the latest safety management techniques and major European safety policies, and discussed ways to strengthen POSCO Group's safety management system through cooperation.
