Xi Jinping Officially Invites Putin and Modi to Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit Chinese President Xi Jinping (right) and Russian President Vladimir Putin are shaking hands.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and others to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which will open on August 31 in Tianjin, China.


Liu Bin, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, stated at a press conference on August 22 (local time) regarding preparations for the summit that President Xi has invited 20 leaders, including President Putin, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, to the SCO summit to hold political and security discussions.


Assistant Minister Liu explained, "As the international situation becomes more turbulent and complex, it is increasingly important for all countries to strengthen unity and cooperation."


The SCO, which will hold its summit in Tianjin, China from August 31 to September 1, is a multilateral organization for political, economic, and security cooperation led by China and Russia. Since its launch in 2001, the SCO currently has 10 member states.


Assistant Minister Liu stated, "Based on the stability and resilience of the SCO, we can respond to unpredictable factors and create an environment for sustainable peace," adding that "this summit will conclude with the signing and announcement of the Tianjin Declaration."


Meanwhile, President Putin and Prime Minister Modi are also expected to attend the military parade in Beijing on September 3, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the 'War of Resistance Against Japan and the World Anti-Fascist War' (World War II).
