The Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Complex Project Group at Keimyung University (President Shin Ilhee) jointly held the "Daegu-Gyeongbuk Mobility Industry-Academia-Government-Research Council Forum" at the Daegu Grand Hotel on August 21, together with the Future Automotive Innovation Convergence University Project Group (COSS), the RISE Project Group, and the Future Mobility Convergence Technology Innovation Center (UIC).
This forum was organized to introduce changes in the global mobility industry environment and future market prospects, and to explore ways to promote cooperation among industry, academia, government, and research institutions for the development of the regional mobility industry.
Since its launch in 2022, the council has held quarterly forums each year, consistently laying the foundation for industry-academia-government-research cooperation focused on future mobility technologies and core electric vehicle technologies.
At this forum, participants examined the impact of strengthened ESG policies and tariff increases implemented by advanced countries to protect their domestic mobility industries, and discussed company-specific response strategies under the theme of manufacturing innovation measures to overcome these challenges.
Min Jongcheol, CEO of OKI Auto, and Han Hankyup, an expert committee member at the Foundation for the Promotion of the Automotive Parts Industry, gave presentations on "The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Strategies for Advancing Smart Factories" and "Trends in Hyundai Motor's ESG Initiatives and Company-Specific Response Measures," respectively, emphasizing the importance of manufacturing innovation and ESG response strategies.
Yoon Yongseon, a professor at Hansung University, gave a presentation on "The Impact of U.S.-China Trade Conflict on the Automotive Industry in the New Cold War Era," outlining the developments in the U.S.-China conflict. Company representatives reviewed the potential impact of international geopolitical changes on the mobility industry and shared response measures.
Lee Gwanggu, Director of the UIC Center, stated, "Today's forum was a valuable opportunity to share the challenges faced by the regional automotive industry due to changes in the global environment and trade regulations, and to seek technological solutions to overcome them together. Going forward, industry and academia will continue to work closely together to enhance the competitiveness of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk mobility industry."
Kim Beomjun, Vice President for Industry-Academia Cooperation at Keimyung University, said, "Keimyung University plans to continue operating the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Mobility Industry-Academia-Government-Research Council Forum to provide a platform for discussing and resolving the technological and policy barriers faced by the regional mobility industry. We hope that more companies will actively participate in the Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Complex Project."
Meanwhile, since its opening in June 2024 with support from the Ministry of Education and Dalseong County, the Keimyung University Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Complex Project Group has attracted 17 companies and carried out 10 joint industry-academia research projects.
In addition, it has resolved 21 corporate challenges, established various shared research facilities, and promoted the discovery and incubation of start-ups, thereby leading the enhancement of competitiveness and technological innovation in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk mobility industry.
