Jang is accused of stabbing his former partner, a woman in her twenties, dozens of times with a weapon in the parking lot of a hospital in Buk-gu, Ulsan, on July 28. After committing the crime, Jang attempted to flee by car, but citizens at the scene blocked his vehicle and stopped him. He was then apprehended by the police who arrived at the scene. The victim has undergone several major surgeries and is currently receiving treatment.
It is known that he had previously committed confinement, assault, and stalking offenses against the victim after she notified him of the breakup, resulting in the court issuing a temporary restraining order against him. Despite this, he sought her out again and committed the crime. The prosecution has detained Jang on charges of attempted murder and referred him to trial.
