Small Business Owners and Experts Join Forces
On August 22 at 2:00 p.m., Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will hold a forum titled "Strategies for Revitalizing the Local Economy Linked to the 2026 National (Para) Sports Festival" in the seminar room of the Provincial Sports Council.
This forum has been organized to identify key tasks and discuss concrete action plans to ensure that the 2026 National (Para) Sports Festival, to be held in Jeju, becomes an "economic sports festival" that provides tangible benefits to the local economy.
Approximately 80 participants, including local small business owners and stakeholders from the economic, tourism, and sports sectors, are expected to attend. The attendees will discuss a variety of ideas on how the successful hosting of the festival can lead to local economic development.
At the forum, Kim Sanghun, Head of the Sports Industry Research Lab at the Korea Institute of Sport Science, will deliver a presentation on "Strategies for Revitalizing the Local Economy Linked to the 2026 National Sports Festival."
Kim is expected to highlight Jeju's high sports participation rate and abundant infrastructure as strengths, emphasize the importance of attracting various sports events, introduce "sportainment" tailored to audience demands, and stress the need to offer attractions in connection with local festivals.
Following the presentation, Professor Jeon Yongbae of Dankook University will serve as moderator. The discussion will include Kang Cheolnam, member of the Jeju Provincial Council; Park Incheol, President of the Jeju Small Business Association; Kim Byunghyo, President of the Jeju Chapter of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association; Kim Changhae, President of the Jeju Chapter of the Korea Hotel Association; as well as representatives from the tourism association, the provincial sports council, and the Jeju Research Institute. They will engage in in-depth discussions based on their expertise in each field.
Jeju Province plans to actively gather opinions from various sectors presented at the forum, develop effective policies, and reflect them in future implementation plans for the National Sports Festival.
Kang Donggyun, Head of the Jeju National Sports Festival Planning Team, stated, "We will listen closely to voices from the field to ensure that the National Sports Festival provides real benefits to the local economy, and we will focus administrative efforts on establishing a virtuous cycle in which all residents of the province can enjoy the benefits."
