'Preventing Another Bucheon Hotel Fire Disaster'... Kim Jaebyung, Gyeonggi Fire Chief, Inspects Icheon Hotel

Kim Jaebyung, head of the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters, conducted an emergency inspection of large hotels ahead of the first anniversary of the Bucheon hotel fire disaster.

The Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced that on the 21st, Kim visited a large hotel located in Majang-myeon, Icheon City, to carry out an emergency fire safety inspection. The hotel has a complex layout, with guest rooms, banquet halls, hot springs, and meeting rooms distributed from the basement level 1 to the fourth floor above ground. This structure poses a significant risk of delayed evacuation for guests in the event of a fire, making preemptive preparation especially important.

On this day, Kim personally checked the operation of key facilities such as emergency evacuation routes, sprinklers, fire shutters, and escape ladders. He also reviewed the site and discussed practical measures to strengthen safety management in the hospitality industry.

This inspection was organized to highlight the importance of safety management in accommodation facilities, taking place one day before the first anniversary of the "Bucheon hotel fire disaster," which resulted in 19 casualties in August last year.

Kim stated, "A fire at a lodging facility can instantly lead to a major disaster with dozens of people trapped. Preemptive inspection and preparation are the only solutions. Taking this inspection as an opportunity, we will further enhance the overall safety standards of accommodation facilities in the province."

Meanwhile, the provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters has designated a "fire safety intensive period for accommodation facilities" until the 22nd of this month and is conducting safety inspections.
