Systematic Management of Hanwoo Cattle with IT Technology
Seungkyu Oh’s Vision:
“Innovating Rural Communities”
A young farmer is drawing attention for revolutionizing the Hanwoo cattle industry, which has been passed down for three generations in Yeongam-gun, South Jeolla Province. That individual is Seungkyu Oh (31), CEO of Green Day Co., Ltd., an agricultural corporation.
Two years ago, CEO Oh boldly left a stable job at a major corporation and returned to his hometown of Yeongam to take over the family business. Rather than simply following traditional livestock practices, he integrated IT technology to open up new possibilities.
Oh systematically analyzed and built a database (DB) of all data for approximately 200 Hanwoo cows, including individual histories, parity, breeding records, calving cycles, slaughter dates, and market trends. Based on this, he established an in-house breeding strategy and determined the optimal shipping timing, greatly improving the efficiency of cattle operations.
He also participated in various educational programs, such as the “Hanwoo University” run by the Yeongam Agricultural Technology Center, to acquire professional knowledge. Recently, he has even begun attempting in-house artificial insemination to reduce production costs.
Oh’s innovations did not stop there. He also ventured into the new field of assembling agricultural drones. Initially, he started by working with used drones, but to adapt to various on-site conditions, he repeatedly disassembled and assembled the aircraft himself. What began as drone assembly work in a corner of the compost facility gradually gained recognition for its expertise. As local farmers increasingly sought technical advice and maintenance, he naturally established a corporation.
Currently, Green Day Co., Ltd. has grown into a technology-driven company specializing in assembling and tuning various agricultural drone models such as the E420P, NV20, and G1700 to meet user needs. Every drone undergoes maintenance and real-flight testing before delivery to ensure optimal performance in the field, and on-site adjustment services tailored to the user’s work style are also provided.
Oh stated, “The agricultural field is never a place that stands still. Without continuous learning, you will inevitably fall behind. I will never forget the mindset I had when I decided to return to farming, and I will do my best to continue being an innovative farmer who maximizes efficiency in the field.”
He is supported by his wife, whom he married in April 2023, and their son, who will soon turn 100 days old. He has expressed his ambition to contribute to solving structural problems in rural areas through technology, rather than focusing on immediate profits.
