The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on August 21 that it will revise and implement the 'Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Regulations on the Management of Educational Public Officials' starting from September 1 to improve the working conditions of educational public employees.

This revision was pursued to reflect amendments to relevant laws such as the 'Act on Gender Equality in Employment and Support for Work-Family Reconciliation' and the 'Labor Standards Act.' The main focus is to substantially expand support for work-family balance and to restructure the special leave system.

The eligibility for childcare hours will also be expanded. Previously, it was available for up to 24 months if the employee had a child aged 5 or younger. Going forward, it will be available for up to 36 months if the employee has a child aged 8 or younger, or a child in the second grade of elementary school or below.

Paid family care leave will be extended by one additional day per year for single-parent families or those with children with disabilities. For leave due to family events, the number of days will be increased from 1 to up to 3 days in the event of the death of the employee's or spouse's siblings.
