On August 20, President Lee Jae-myung hosted a dinner meeting with Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheong-rae and other party leadership, during which they reached a consensus to complete legislative reforms on prosecutorial reform before Chuseok.
According to a written briefing by Democratic Party chief spokesperson Park Soo-hyun, President Lee invited leader Jeong and the party leadership for a dinner that also served as an introductory meeting, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and lasting for over two hours of conversation.
President Lee said, "Congratulations on your election as party leader and on the formation of the new leadership," and added, "Let us ensure that the party and government maintain a cooperative, unified relationship so that the public can feel the effectiveness of the new administration." He continued, "It is important to take responsibility through results rather than words," encouraging, "Let us do our utmost so that the people can truly feel their lives are changing."
Leader Jeong responded, "Thank you for inviting and encouraging us despite your busy schedule preparing for summit diplomacy," and added, "As the ruling party, we will take responsibility and deliver results to support the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration with our utmost efforts. Let us ensure that the party, government, and presidential office act as one."

During the meeting, they also discussed prosecutorial reform. Chief spokesperson Park stated, "The party, government, and presidential office clearly confirmed that they will pursue prosecutorial reform without any disagreement or wavering," and explained, "They agreed to include the fundamental principle of separating investigation and indictment in the amendment to the Government Organization Act before Chuseok." He added, "The government will continue to push forward with follow-up measures after thorough preparation."
In response, leader Jeong expressed his gratitude to the president, while floor leader Kim Byung-ki remarked, "The separation of investigation and indictment itself is a major transformation." Also attending the dinner from the presidential office were Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik, Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom, Senior Political Affairs Secretary Woo Sang-ho, and Political Affairs Secretary Kim Byung-wook.
