Police Hospital to Open in Asan with 300 Beds
Fully Funded by 172.4 Billion Won in National Budget
A Major Boost for Public Healthcare in South Chungcheong
With the decision to establish a police hospital in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, targeting an opening in 2029, public healthcare services in the region are expected to be significantly strengthened.
On August 20, South Chungcheong Province announced that the Asan Police Hospital construction project had passed the final preliminary feasibility study (pre-feasibility study) at the '8th Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee of 2025,' presided over by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The Asan Police Hospital, to be built entirely with national funding totaling 172.4 billion won, will be located on an 80,000-square-meter site within the Police Complex Town in Chosa-dong, Asan. The hospital will be a public medical institution of general hospital level, featuring six specialized medical centers including a cardiovascular and cerebrovascular center, 24 medical departments, and a capacity of 300 beds.
Additionally, with over 500 medical staff stationed at the hospital, not only police officers but also local residents will be able to receive treatment. This is expected to help reduce the healthcare service gap and improve the quality of medical care in the northwestern region of South Chungcheong Province.
In particular, the opening of the police hospital is projected to have a significant impact in various areas, including expanding essential and regional medical services, improving medical welfare for police officers outside the capital area, increasing public access to healthcare, and promoting development in western Asan.
Furthermore, with the establishment of a medical support system for approximately 100,000 police trainees annually, the initiative is expected to provide positive momentum for attracting the second Central Police Academy.
The province began by securing a budget for a feasibility study from the National Police Agency in 2021, then selected Asan as the final candidate site through a nationwide competition in 2022. Last May, the project was designated as a target for expedited pre-feasibility review, and now it has successfully passed the final pre-feasibility study.
A provincial official stated, "The opening of the Asan Police Hospital will be a key milestone in strengthening the public healthcare system and promoting balanced regional development in South Chungcheong Province," adding, "We also plan to consider gradually expanding its functions in line with future demand."
