Jindo County Successfully Concludes Jodo Township Residents Sports Festival

Over 800 Residents and Hometown Members Gather
A Festival of Unity and Sharing in Celebration of Liberation Day

The 79th Jodo Township Residents Sports Festival, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, was held successfully over two days from August 15 to 16 at the Jodo Elementary School sports field in Jodo-myeon, Jindo County, South Jeolla Province.


Approximately 800 people attended the event, including Jindo County Mayor Kim Heesu, Assemblyman Park Jiweon, Jindo County Council Chairwoman Park Geumrae, county council members, heads of local organizations, and members of hometown associations from Seoul, Busan, Gwangju, and Mokpo, sharing a meaningful time together.


At the opening ceremony, seven hometown association members and athletes who contributed to regional development and community harmony received commendations from the Jindo County Mayor and the County Council Chairwoman.


Additionally, the Jodo Township Sports Association and the Jodo Township Heads Association each donated 1 million won for talent development scholarships and sports association development funds, respectively. Businesspeople from the hometown association also contributed a total of 9 million won in donations to support the development of their hometown.


The sports festival began with the entrance ceremony of athletes from 12 villages, followed by competitions in soccer, volleyball, tug-of-war, and Yutnori, as well as performances of Jodo Nongak Gilnori and Jodo Nanta. Side events such as Jegichagi, fishing hook games, shoe throwing, prize drawings, and singing contests were also organized, receiving enthusiastic responses from participants of all ages.


Park Gwidong, President of the Jodo Township Sports Association, said, "I am pleased that this event has become a place of unity for residents and hometown association members," pledging to further develop the community.


Mayor Kim Heesu stated, "The Jodo Township Residents Sports Festival is an opportunity for residents to reflect on the meaning of Liberation Day and to practice the values of autonomy, independence, and solidarity together. I hope the passionate spirit of the residents will lead to further development of our hometown."
