Gwangju Bukbu Police Charge Suspect With Obstruction of Business
Over 30 Prior Convictions for Similar Offenses... Concerns About Repeat Offenses
A man in his 50s was arrested by the police after causing a disturbance at a bar, drinking alcohol, and leaving without paying the bill.
On August 20, Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced that they had arrested Mr. A (55) on charges of aggravated assault and obstruction of business.
Mr. A is accused of eating and drinking items worth about 50,000 won at a bar in Usan-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, on July 3, then attempting to flee without paying. When apprehended, he allegedly spat at the owner and nearby customers and used violence, thereby disrupting business operations.
At the scene, a customer in his 40s, identified as Mr. B, suffered injuries requiring three weeks of medical treatment.
According to the investigation, Mr. A had about 30 previous convictions for similar offenses and reportedly stated that he committed the crime while intoxicated on this occasion as well.
The police, citing concerns about the possibility of repeat offenses, applied for and obtained a pretrial detention warrant from the court.
The police are continuing to investigate Mr. A for any additional offenses.
