The Sejong City Tennis Association is expected to take collective action.
On August 19, Lee Jongcheol, president of the Sejong City Tennis Association, held a press conference and emphasized, "The decision to disband the city hall tennis team must be withdrawn." He also stated that if the decision is not reversed, the association is prepared to launch a petition campaign.
The issue of disbanding the tennis association is expected to spread throughout the local community.
On this day, President Lee Jongcheol and officials from the tennis association urged the withdrawal, stating, "Disbanding the city hall tennis team, which has played a key role in nurturing promising local talent, undermines the foundation for the development of tennis in the region and takes away the hopes of elementary, middle, and high school athletes."
In particular, they pointed out that there are currently four school teams operating in the region-two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school-and insisted that the decision to disband should be reversed so that young athletes can continue to pursue their dreams of becoming national representatives and winning international competitions.
President Lee stated, "The reasons cited for disbanding the tennis team-poor performance, a vacant head coach position, and excessive salary demands-are not true," and pointed out, "The achievements and social contributions of the tennis team were not considered in the decision." He added, "The association is prepared to present practical alternatives for normalizing the professional team, including improving the management system, appointing new coaches, and optimizing budget operations."
