Auction to Be Held in Hong Kong on October 30
Rare Early Joseon Blue-and-White Porcelain Jar Up for Bidding
Christie's to Exhibit the Piece in Seoul Before the Sale
A blue-and-white porcelain piece from the early 15th-century Joseon Dynasty will be auctioned in October.
On August 19, art auction house Christie's announced that it will auction a Joseon Dynasty blue-and-white porcelain jar in Hong Kong on October 30.
This piece, a jar produced in the 15th century, measures 28 cm in height and 26.2 cm in diameter. Its estimated price is between 16 million and 24 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately 2.83 billion to 4.24 billion won).
The entire jar is decorated with a bosanghwa (imaginary flower) pattern using cobalt-blue pigment, and bands of lotus patterns encircle the upper and lower sections.
Christie's stated, "It is rare to find early Joseon blue-and-white porcelain pieces that use cobalt-blue pigment," adding, "There are no black spots caused by iron impurities, which are commonly seen in early Joseon blue-and-white porcelain, and the preservation state is also excellent."
Christie's will exhibit this piece at Christie's Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul, from August 25 to 27.
