The Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office and Gwangju Bukgu District Office are swiftly moving forward with a sewer maintenance project to prevent a recurrence of flooding in the Seobangcheon area of Bukgu, which was declared a special disaster zone.

After severe flooding occurred near the Seobangcheon Sinan Bridge due to heavy rainfall in July and August, Bukgu established a sewer maintenance plan that includes the improvement and construction of 5.862 kilometers of stormwater pipelines. The district completed consultations with the Environmental Office in July. The project will be completed by 2028 with a total budget of 43.1 billion won (including 13 billion won in national funding), and Bukgu will begin the detailed design phase in September.


Kim Youngwoo, head of the Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office, stated, "We will work closely with relevant agencies to implement the project quickly so that residents can feel more at ease."


Moon In, head of Bukgu District Office, also said, "By accelerating the project, we will create a safer Bukgu for our residents."
