Namdong District in Incheon Accelerates Redevelopment Projects with Budget Request for Maintenance Planning

Three Candidate Sites Including Ganseok 37, Mansu 1, and Mansu 3 Districts
Set for Full-Scale Redevelopment Planning
District Aims for Integrated Urban Regeneration and Improved Residential Welfare

The redevelopment project aimed at revitalizing the old downtown area of Namdong District, Incheon, is expected to gain momentum.

On the 19th, Namdong District announced that it had requested a budget from Incheon City for the establishment of maintenance plans and designation of zones for Ganseok 37 District, Mansu 1 District, and Mansu 3 District.

These districts were selected as candidate sites through Incheon City's '2023 2nd Pre-Review Proposal Contest for Redevelopment Projects.' They were ultimately chosen after a preliminary review that considered residents' requests, local conditions, and the degree of aging.

Starting with this budget request, the full-scale process of establishing maintenance plans is set to begin next year. The district plans to secure the necessary budget through consultations with Incheon City, promptly carry out the maintenance planning service, and then proceed step by step toward the designation of maintenance zones.

The three candidate sites for redevelopment are aging low-rise residential areas where the need for maintenance has been consistently raised due to population decline and deteriorating living conditions. As a proactive measure to restore urban functions and improve residential welfare, the district intends to systematically and realistically promote the long-awaited redevelopment project for residents.

For the Ganseok 37 District, the plan is to maximize the effect of residential environment improvement and maintenance by linking it with the Ganseok 3-dong New Village Project. For Mansu 1 District and Mansu 3 District, the district is considering the creation of an eco-friendly riverside residential environment, taking into account the synergy with the Mansucheon Stream Restoration Project. Through these efforts, the district expects to establish an integrated urban regeneration model that goes beyond simple aging maintenance and utilizes local characteristics and resources.

During the maintenance planning process, the district will comprehensively consider the location, transportation, and infrastructure of each area and prepare a customized maintenance plan after reviews by experts in urban planning, architecture, and transportation.

Park Jonghyo, Mayor of Namdong District, said, "With this budget request, we expect the redevelopment project to proceed at an even faster pace," adding, "We will continue to ensure the smooth implementation of redevelopment projects to improve the residential environment and achieve balanced regional development."
