KOSPI Slightly Lower Mid-Session on Foreign Investor Selling Yonhap News Agency

The KOSPI is trading slightly lower during the session, pressured by foreign investor selling.


As of 10:40 a.m. on August 19, the KOSPI is trading at 3,168.09, down 0.33% from the previous day.


By investor type, institutions and individuals are net buyers of 48 billion won and 130.3 billion won, respectively, while foreign investors are net sellers of 209.1 billion won. In the futures market, institutions and individuals are net buyers of 51.2 billion won and 2.7 billion won, respectively, while foreign investors are net sellers of 24.7 billion won.


By sector, more sectors are declining than rising. The machinery and equipment sector is down 2.72%, electric and gas down 2.49%, construction down 2.04%, medical precision down 1.49%, general services down 1.38%, transportation equipment down 0.67%, textiles and apparel down 0.66%, transportation and storage down 0.58%, non-metallic minerals down 0.49%, and securities down 0.44%. In contrast, entertainment and culture is up 2.42%, IT services up 0.82%, and food, beverages, and tobacco up 0.67%.


Among large-cap stocks, performances are mixed. Samsung Electronics is up 0.43%, Hyundai Motor up 0.23%, Kia up 1.17%, and KB Financial Group up 0.47%. On the other hand, SK Hynix is down 0.56%, LG Energy Solution down 0.39%, Hanwha Aerospace down 2.7%, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries down 2.31%, Doosan Enerbility down 4.76%, and Celltrion down 0.81%.


The KOSDAQ index is also continuing its downward trend. At the same time, the KOSDAQ is trading at 791.65, down 0.8% from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreign investors are net sellers of 40.3 billion won and 19.3 billion won, respectively, while individuals are net buyers of 77.2 billion won.


Among large-cap KOSDAQ stocks, performances are mixed. Alteogen is down 3.75%, Peptone down 10.05%, Ligachem Bio down 3.51%, Rainbow Robotics down 0.94%, HLB down 1.89%, ABL Bio down 6.35%, and Samchundang Pharm down 0.61%. In contrast, Ecopro BM and Ecopro are up 0.38% and 0.18%, respectively, while PharmaResearch up 2.84%, Hugel up 0.33%, Lino Industrial up 1.4%, and SM up 2.99%.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,389.2 won, up 1.1 won from the previous day.
