Impact of Sluggish Sales
Measures to Address Vehicle Storage Shortages
Drivers in the United Kingdom will be able to lease Tesla vehicles at prices about half of what they were a year ago.
On August 18 (local time), Reuters, citing The Times, reported that Tesla is offering leasing companies discounts of up to 40%. As a result, consumers can now lease electric vehicles at significantly reduced monthly rates.
This measure is seen as a response to sluggish sales and a shortage of vehicle storage space. Tesla did not respond to Reuters' request for comment.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Tesla's UK sales in July fell by about 60% year-on-year, reaching just 987 units. In the same month, the total number of new car registrations in the UK declined by 5% compared to the previous year.
The SMMT forecasts that battery electric vehicles (BEVs) will account for 23.8% of all new vehicle registrations in the UK this year. This is a slight upward revision from its previous projection of 23.5%.
