Last Year, Teenage Boys Threw Stones at the Ducks
"Duck Mom: Waiting for Police Investigation Results"

A, a YouTuber known as "Duck Mom" who takes care of the Samsungcheon duck family, said, "Around 5 a.m. on the 16th, I found Suni lying under the bridge. When I called out, there was no response, so I approached and found Suni dead, cold, with a wound on the back of the neck that appeared to have been caused by a blunt object."

She continued, "I was at a loss for words and couldn't stop crying. I reported the incident to the police, and an investigation is expected to begin." She added, "There was a tip-off that some middle and high school students were seen gathering after being heard making noise by the stream. While I am suspicious, I will wait for the results of the investigation."

She also said, "I'm worried about how Samsuni, now left alone, will manage. Samsuni hasn't been eating and only stays where Suni used to be. Previously, when Suni was injured, Samsuni would quack and search for Suni, but this time, perhaps realizing Suni is gone, Samsuni doesn't even cry."

Previously, in early April last year, the Samsungcheon duck family-consisting of Ilsuni, Suni, and Samsuni-was also injured when teenage boys threw stones at them. According to JTBC's "Incident Room," six students admitted to throwing stones at the ducks as a prank and expressed remorse. They were referred to the prosecution without detention.

Due to this incident, Suni was at risk of losing eyesight but was treated and released, while Ilsuni died from a severe leg infection. Afterwards, a banner was put up in the area stating, "Injuring ducks in the stream is a criminal act."

Upon hearing the sad news about the duck family, netizens expressed their sorrow. One commented, "When there was a previous duck abuse incident, I wonder if things would have been different if, instead of just putting up a banner, they had installed CCTV. I recall the authorities saying they couldn't do it due to budget constraints when the lady suggested it." Another netizen said, "It's heartbreaking to think how scared Suni must have been."

Under the current Animal Protection Act, anyone who injures an animal using tools or other physical means may face up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won. Additionally, causing the death of an animal without proper authorization, license, or other justifiable reason can result in up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won.
