Interim Report Meeting on Support Measures for Climate-Vulnerable Groups
Exploring Strategies to Assist Climate-Vulnerable Groups and Regions, Including Children and the Elderly
Ulsan City has begun developing support measures for vulnerable groups and regions to minimize the damage caused by the climate crisis.
On August 18 at 4:00 p.m., the city will hold an interim report meeting for the "Study on Support Measures for Vulnerable Groups and Regions Affected by the Climate Crisis" in the International Conference Room on the 4th floor of Ulsan City Hall's main building.
This study, which has been conducted by the Ulsan Research Institute since March, aims to develop support measures to minimize damage and enhance resilience for climate-vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and low-income households, as well as regions susceptible to heatwaves, heavy rainfall, and flooding.
Approximately 10 officials from departments related to environment, welfare, and natural disasters will participate in the meeting to share research findings and discuss ways to link these with departmental policies.
The key agenda items include: ▲Assessment of climate impacts on physically, socially, economically, and residentially vulnerable groups ▲Spatial analysis of regions vulnerable to specific climate factors such as heatwaves and flooding ▲Local adaptation case studies (such as cooling fog systems, cool roofs, and flood barriers) ▲Policy recommendations for prevention and adaptation.
In particular, the meeting will present and discuss regions requiring the highest priority response by overlaying spatial analysis results, such as areas with high floating populations aged 60 and over and regions densely populated by economically vulnerable groups.
The final report will be completed by the end of this year and will be used to inform policies aimed at enhancing the adaptive capacity of climate-vulnerable groups. Ulsan City plans to prioritize and implement policies for the most urgent issues first.
A city official stated, "While the climate crisis affects everyone, the damage is expected to be greater for vulnerable groups and regions," adding, "We will create a safer and more sustainable Ulsan for all citizens through data-driven, customized measures."
