Yongsan-gu to Expand Installation of Intelligent CCTVs in Hyochang and Eungbong Parks

A Total of 83 Intelligent CCTVs to Be Installed by Next Month
Real-Time Detection of Abnormal Behavior with AI

Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) will expand the installation of intelligent closed-circuit (CC)TVs in Hyochang Park and Eungbong Park by September this year to prevent crime and strengthen public safety.

This measure aims to eliminate blind spots for crime within parks and establish a rapid response system through real-time video analysis, in response to growing public anxiety following a series of so-called "irrational motive crimes" targeting random individuals.

The intelligent CCTVs utilize artificial intelligence (AI) technology to detect abnormal behavior in real time and immediately alert the control center. They can identify a range of risk signals, including flames, fires, falls, and smoking, making them effective not only for crime prevention but also for responding to disaster situations.

Currently, a total of 124 CCTVs are installed in the two parks, and 26 of these will be replaced with intelligent units. Of the 13 new cameras to be added, 10 will also be intelligent CCTVs, bringing the total number of intelligent CCTVs in the two parks to 83 upon completion of this project.

The district plans to build a more robust safety network by installing CCTVs and emergency bells together in high-traffic areas, such as around playgrounds and stairway entrances and exits.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, "The expansion of intelligent CCTVs is significant not only as an increase in equipment but also as the establishment of a proactive crime prevention system," adding, "We will continue to create a safer Yongsan through practical, community-focused projects that residents can truly feel."

Meanwhile, last year, Yongsan-gu applied Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles by installing shadow lighting and ground guidance signs. This year, the district is working to improve convenience and safety for residents by renovating outdated facilities in five neighborhood and themed parks, including Beodeulgae Culture Park, as well as in 38 children's and small parks.
