President Lee Jae-myung and First Lady Kim Hye-kyung watched the film 'Independence Army: The Unfinished War' on the 17th.


To mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation, President Lee and First Lady Kim joined around 150 citizens at a movie theater in Yongsan-gu, Seoul to watch the film about the Independence Army.


'Independence Army' is a documentary film depicting the life of General Hong Beom-do. Prior to the screening, the presidential office recruited citizens to attend the movie together through an online lottery. President Lee and the First Lady sat alongside special guests, including actors Jo Jin-woong, Ahn Jae-mo, Lee Ki-young, director Moon Seung-wook, Democratic Party lawmaker Park Hong-keun, and spokesperson Kang Yu-jung.


When President Lee and the First Lady appeared at the theater, citizens greeted them with cheers such as "We love you" and "It's an honor." The President and First Lady took photos with elementary school students and children, and even asked the children about their ages. After the film ended, President Lee also had a conversation with Jo Jin-woong, who played the lead role.


On the 16th, President Lee had announced via social media that he would watch 'Independence Army: The Unfinished War,' a film recommended by actor Jo Jin-woong, on Sunday morning to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation. President Lee stated, "The prosperity and freedom we enjoy today are founded on the indomitable will for liberation and the burning hope for the restoration of sovereignty, embodied by countless unsung heroes who devoted themselves to the cause."


He added, "Let us remember their sacrifice and dedication and join together for this meaningful occasion to share the significance of 80 years of liberation." He also proposed, "In the hope that more people will honor and remember the proud history of the Independence Army, I am inviting those who wish to join me for a screening tomorrow morning."
