Intensive Collection Period for Overdue Local Taxes Extended Until November
Stronger Measures for High-Amount Delinquents,
Support for Taxpayers Facing Economic Hardship
The period from this month until the end of November has been designated as an intensive collection period for overdue local taxes and non-tax revenues. This initiative aims to expand independent financial resources and uphold tax justice.
According to Sejong City on August 17, the intensive collection period has been extended from the previous three months to four months. The city plans to make a more detailed and comprehensive effort to collect overdue payments from high-amount and habitual delinquents. During this period, overdue notices and information letters will be sent out in bulk to encourage voluntary payments from delinquent taxpayers.
In particular, for those with large or chronic delinquencies, strong administrative sanctions will be enforced, including the seizure of assets such as real estate, bank deposits, salaries, and insurance payouts, as well as public disclosure of names and restrictions on licensed business activities. To collect overdue automobile taxes, license plate seizure operations will be conducted twice a week, and a "joint seizure day" will be held once a month to collect not only local taxes but also automobile-related fines.
For delinquent taxpayers facing economic hardship, such as livelihood-based individuals, small businesses, and micro-enterprises, the city will provide support for economic recovery through measures such as ▲deferment of collection of overdue amounts ▲installment payments ▲postponement of license plate seizure.
A city official stated, "By extending the intensive collection period by one month, we will realize tax justice through strong collection efforts targeting high-amount delinquents," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that a variety of tax support measures are available for livelihood-based delinquent taxpayers facing difficulties."
