"Bomb Threat Against Korean Public Transportation on Liberation Day"... Threatening Email Sent to Korean Embassy in Washington

On August 15, Liberation Day, the Korean Embassy in the United States received an email threatening a bomb attack on public transportation, prompting police to launch an investigation.


According to the police, at approximately 5:34 a.m. on this day, the Korean Embassy in Washington, D.C. reported to the police after receiving a threatening email. The email stated, "At 3:34 p.m. on August 15, I will detonate a high-powered bomb on public transportation in an urban area of Korea." The specific location was not mentioned. In response, the police have strengthened joint patrols of public transportation and have begun tracking the sender of the email as part of their investigation.


A police official stated, "To alleviate public anxiety, we are reinforcing joint patrols, and the police special operations unit is maintaining a state of readiness to respond to any contingency."
