Students from the Department of Military Science at Dongmyung University have completed a ten-day expedition along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
Dongmyung University announced on August 15 that eight students, including second-year student Kim Eunbi, successfully finished the entire 350-kilometer DMZ Peace Trail expedition, which took place from August 4 to August 13, spanning nine nights and ten days.
The students participated in the 13th "Korean Peninsula Reconciliation and Cooperation 2025 DMZ Peace Trail Expedition," marching on foot from Goseong in Gangwon Province to Imjingak in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, with all members completing the journey. This year’s expedition focused on key sites such as the Unification Observatory, major battlefields of the Korean War (including Bloody Ridge, Baekma Hill, and Punchbowl), and the Peace Dam. In addition, "Rural Experience and Volunteer Activities" were newly added this year, allowing participants to pick tomatoes and assist with farm work.
A total of 80 people took part, including 60 university students from across the country. Representing the Busan region, students from the Department of Military Science at Dongmyung University and the Department of Nursing at Busan Women's College joined the expedition, showcasing the strength of "Busan."
Kim Eunbi said, "I truly realized the reality that, although North Korea is right in front of us, we cannot go there. It made me reflect once again on the value of peace and the pain of division. I hope that even more students will join next year and gain this meaningful experience."
Professor Na Seunghak, Dean of the College of Creative Talent and Chair of the Department of Military Science, commented, "By enduring the intense heat and visiting major Korean War battlefields in person, the students were able to reflect on the meaning of peace and gain confidence."
