Korean Independence Movement Guidebook in Mexico and Professor Seo Kyungduk and Actress Song Hyekyo who promoted this event
In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation, Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women’s University and actress Song Hye-kyo have donated 10,000 copies of a guidebook that introduces the history of Korean independence movements by Koreans in Mexico, both domestically and internationally. This guidebook was produced in both Korean and Spanish, and has been donated to the Korean Cultural Center in Mexico, where it has been available for distribution since the 15th.
The main contents of the guidebook provide detailed introductions to sites such as the Korean National Association Mexico City Chapter Hall, the residences of independence activists Kim Ik-joo and Hwangbo Young-joo, Dolores Cemetery, and the accommodation used by Ahn Changho in Guadalajara.
Professor Seo stated, "The preservation status of sites related to the Korean independence movement remaining overseas is not particularly good." He emphasized, however, that "the continued interest and visits by our people are the greatest force for preserving these historical sites of Korea that remain abroad."
If visiting the sites in person is difficult, the original files can be downloaded and used from the website 'Stories of Our History Encountered Abroad.'
This project is the second to be carried out in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation, following the donation of the 'Saipan·Tinian' historical guidebook in June. The third project is scheduled to take place in November.
Meanwhile, over the past 14 years, Professor Seo’s planning and Song Hye-kyo’s sponsorship have enabled the donation of Korean-language guidebooks, Korean signboards, and relief works of independence activists to 39 sites of Korean historical significance remaining overseas.
