Legal Responses to Hacking and Data Breaches: Academia, Legal, and Technology Experts to Gather on the 21st

Amid a series of recent telecom company hacking incidents and large-scale personal data breaches, legal and technology experts will gather to discuss countermeasures. The Korea Data Law and Policy Association will hold its summer regular seminar on August 21 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cosmos & Violet Hall on the second floor of the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul, under the theme "Issues and Challenges of Information Protection Law, Including Hacking and Personal Data Breaches."

The purpose of this seminar is to comprehensively examine the issues that have emerged across various areas of law-including the Information and Communications Network Act, the Personal Information Protection Act, civil law, and administrative law-together with their technological backgrounds.

The first presentation will be delivered by Lee Kyungho, a professor at Korea University's Graduate School of Information Security, who will address the technical issues and challenges of hacking and personal data breaches. Next, Park Jongsoo, a professor at Korea University's School of Law, will discuss legal issues and response tasks.

During the panel discussion, Vice President Son Seungwoo will serve as moderator, with panelists including Jeong Wonjun, head of the AI Law Team at the Korea Legislation Research Institute; Shin Yongwoo, attorney at Jipyung LLC; Kim Hwa, professor at Ewha Womans University School of Law; Park Jongguk, attorney at Kim & Chang; Kim Taeo, professor at Changwon University School of Law; and Kim Kibeom, professor at Sungkyunkwan University Department of Forensic Science.

President Lee Sungyeop stated, "This seminar will be meaningful in proposing alternatives, as a variety of technical and legal issues are being raised in the wake of the recent surge in hacking and personal data breaches."
