The police have accidentally provided a stalking victim's personal information, including their address, to the suspect.
Gangseo Police Station, Seoul
The Yeomchang Police Box of Gangseo Police Station in Seoul officially apologized on August 14 to the victim, referred to as A, for the leak of personal information after A reported a stalking incident last month.
A is reported to have filed a complaint against a coworker, the suspect, for violating the Anti-Stalking Act after receiving repeated abusive text messages and phone calls over a two-week period.
Subsequently, during the process of taking emergency protective measures related to stalking (restricting access to the victim's residence), the police mistakenly sent a notification containing the victim's address to the suspect's mobile phone.
A police official stated, "We sent information that was supposed to be provided to the victim to the suspect, and since the victim's residential information was included, it was leaked. We informed the victim about the leak of their residential information and issued an apology."
After becoming aware of the leak, the police supported the installation of CCTV at the victim's home, provided a smartwatch, and increased patrols in the vicinity of the residence.
