In July, the number of Ukrainian civilian casualties resulting from the Russia-Ukraine war reached 1,674. Excluding the first three months of 2022, when the conflict escalated into a full-scale war, this is the highest monthly figure in the past three years.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing statistics from the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU), announced on the 13th (local time) that Russian attacks in July killed 286 Ukrainian civilians and injured 1,388 others. This is the highest monthly toll since May 2022.
Danielle Bell, head of the HRMMU, stated, "For two consecutive months, the number of Ukrainian civilian deaths has reached the highest level in three years," adding, "Excluding the initial three months following Russia's full-scale invasion, last month recorded the highest number of casualties."
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said, "Russian missiles, drones, and bombs continue to kill civilians, even in homes and hospitals," stressing, "Accountability for these war crimes is inevitable."
He further emphasized, "The first step to stopping Russian terror is an immediate and unconditional ceasefire," and added, "Only the unity of the European and Atlantic alliances can halt Russia's war and guarantee international stability based on international law."
Even ahead of the upcoming U.S.-Russia summit in Alaska on the 15th, where a ceasefire in the Ukraine war will be discussed, Russia is intensifying its offensive against Ukraine by deploying drones and small infantry units.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not agree to a ceasefire at the U.S.-Russia summit on the 15th, it will result in "very serious consequences." He also announced his intention to immediately hold a subsequent three-way summit, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, right after the U.S.-Russia talks.
