Aiming to Establish Robust Emergency Preparedness Against Security Threats
Eulji Exercise to Be Conducted in Cooperation With Local Governments, Military, Police, and Fire Agencies, Including Border Areas
Nationwide Hands-On Drills for Emergency Procedures and Resident Evacuation to Take Place
Gyeonggi Province announced on August 14 that it will conduct the Eulji Exercise from August 18 to 21, in cooperation with municipal and county governments, corps-level military units, the Gyeonggi Northern and Southern Provincial Police Agencies, the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, and other related organizations, to establish a robust regional emergency preparedness posture.
The Eulji Exercise is a nationwide emergency preparedness drill conducted at the pan-government level to protect the lives and property of citizens in the event of a national emergency, such as war or terrorism.
On the first day of the exercise, August 18, Gyeonggi Province will hold an initial situation report and wartime organization training presided over by Governor Kim Dongyeon, as well as operational drills for the wartime comprehensive situation room and wartime establishment organizations. In addition, evacuation drills for residents in border areas will be carried out in Gimpo City, Dongducheon City, and Yeoncheon County.
From the second to the fourth day, the province’s main drill will be a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) integrated defense exercise at Suwon Sports Complex. There will also be terrorism response drills in each city and county, conducted in cooperation with local military, police, fire, and other relevant agencies.
On Wednesday, August 20, the third day of the exercise, a nationwide civil defense drill against air raids is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. This hands-on drill will include emergency preparedness procedures and resident evacuation training.
During this year’s Eulji Exercise, the province plans to assess emergency preparedness and the integrated response capabilities of civilian, government, military, police, and fire agencies.
