PGA Money Leader to Be Determined After Final Tour Championship

Official Prize Money Now Includes Final Playoff Event
Scheffler, McIlroy, and Spaun Lead the Race for Top Earnings

The 2025 season's top money winner on the PGA Tour will be determined after the final tournament concludes.

On August 13 (local time), the Associated Press reported, "Starting this year, the winner's prize money from the Tour Championship, the final event of the PGA Tour season, will be included in the official money list." Until last year, the Tour Championship winner's prize was classified as a bonus and not counted toward official earnings. However, beginning this year, the Tour Championship prize will be recognized as official earnings, introducing a new variable to the money rankings.

This year, only two tournaments remain on the PGA Tour: the BMW Championship, which begins on August 14, and next week's Tour Championship. The Tour Championship, open only to the top 30 players in the FedExCup standings, offers a total purse of $40 million, with $10 million (approximately 13.8 billion KRW) awarded to the winner. Scottie Scheffler of the United States currently leads the season's money list with $20.36 million. Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland is in second place with $16.15 million, followed by J.J. Spaun of the United States in third with $12.3 million.

Until last year, the Tour Championship began with each of the top 30 players receiving bonus strokes based on their FedExCup ranking. For example, the player ranked first in the FedExCup started the tournament at 10-under par, second place at 8-under, third at 7-under, and so on for the opening round.

However, starting this year, the bonus strokes system has been eliminated, and all 30 players will begin the tournament at even par, just like any other event. Additionally, unlike last season, when the Tour Championship winner received a lump-sum bonus of $25 million, this year the payouts will be distributed. The player ranked first in the FedExCup at the conclusion of the regular season's final event, the Wyndham Championship, will receive $10 million. The leader after the second playoff event, the BMW Championship, will receive $5 million. The winner of the Tour Championship will also receive $10 million. Of these, the bonuses awarded at the conclusion of the Wyndham Championship and BMW Championship will not be included in official earnings.
