Daejeon City Supports 1.35 Million Reusable Containers
for a Waste-Free, Eco-Friendly Festival
The "Daejeon 0 O’Clock Festival" is receiving praise as an eco-friendly event free of waste, thanks to its use of reusable containers.
To achieve this, Daejeon City is providing 1.35 million reusable containers, making significant efforts to realize a waste-free, environmentally friendly festival. This is a 50% increase from last year's 900,000 containers and is expected to dramatically reduce the plastic and paper waste generated during the festival period.
This year, the city has set the goal of creating a sustainable festival in harmony with the environment. In particular, the city has actively implemented its reusable container policy to minimize waste from food consumption, which is concentrated during nighttime hours.
Reusable container collection centers are in operation at the Jungang Market Food Zone and the Geonmaek Food Zone next to Mokcheokgyo Bridge. In addition, collection bins have been placed at key locations to make it convenient for citizens to return the containers.
A Daejeon City official stated, "Through the expansion of reusable containers and citizen participation programs, the '0 O’Clock Festival' has become more than just a festival-it has realized a sustainable event that coexists with the environment. We will do our utmost to spread the culture of using reusable containers to other festivals and daily life in the future."
