On August 13, President Lee Jaemyung appointed ten new vice-ministerial-level officials.
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yujeong announced at a briefing at the Yongsan presidential office that President Lee appointed Kim Youngsoo, Director of Administration and Operations at the National Museum of Korea, as the First Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Kim Daehyun, former Director General for Religious Affairs at the Ministry, as the Second Vice Minister. Kim Changseop, Director of the Science and Technology Bureau, was appointed as the Third Deputy Director of the National Intelligence Service.
Baek Seungbo, current Deputy Commissioner of the Public Procurement Service, and Ahn Hyeongjun, current Deputy Commissioner of Statistics Korea, were nominated as the new heads of the Public Procurement Service and Statistics Korea, respectively. Lee Seungdon, President of the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, who joined as an agricultural researcher and held key positions, was named as the new Administrator of the Rural Development Administration. Kim Inho, Director of the Institute for Environmental Education Innovation, was appointed as the new Administrator of the Korea Forest Service. Lee Miseon, former Director of the Seoul Regional Office of the Korea Meteorological Administration, was selected as the new Administrator of the Korea Meteorological Administration.
Kang Yongseung, Co-Representative of Jeonbuk Gyeorehana, will serve as Secretary General of the National Unification Advisory Council. Jeong Hanjung, Professor at the Korea University School of Law, was appointed as the Chairman of the Appeals Commission. Professor Jeong is known for his outspoken criticism of the prosecution's decision to suspend indictment regarding the 12·12 Military Coup during his time at the Judicial Research and Training Institute.
This round of appointments included a significant number of career bureaucrats with extensive experience in their respective ministries. Spokesperson Kang stated, "These appointments reflect a pragmatic approach, as many of those selected have accumulated substantial experience within their organizations and have earned deep trust and respect over long careers."
