President Lee Jaemyung will visit Japan on August 23-24 to hold a summit and attend a dinner with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, announced this during a briefing at the Presidential Office in Yongsan on the same day. President Lee will visit Japan before heading to the United States on August 24. However, this visit will be a working visit, not a state visit.
Spokesperson Kang stated, "The two leaders agreed last June to resume shuttle diplomacy at the earliest possible date," and emphasized, "We expect that this visit will further deepen the personal bond and trust between the two leaders."
Kang further explained, "Through the summit, the leaders of Korea and Japan will solidify the foundation for future-oriented cooperation between the two countries. They will also have candid discussions on ways to strengthen Korea-Japan and Korea-US-Japan cooperation, as well as on regional peace and stability, and various regional and global issues."
Meanwhile, the Presidential Office announced that, with President Lee's visits to the United States and Japan now confirmed, the previously considered special envoys to the US and Japan will not be dispatched.
